Harris Bank Chesterton Branch
This one-acre site at the northeast corner of IL Route 49 and County Road 1100 exemplifies sustainable design. The project features bioswales to manage and filter stormwater, utilizing the site’s sandy soils for natural recharge without under drains.
To reduce the heat island effect, light-colored concrete pavement and a white roof were used. The site also includes preferred parking for low-emitting and fuel-efficient vehicles, encouraging environmentally friendly transportation.
Native plantings were incorporated to minimize irrigation needs, enhancing the site’s sustainability. These efforts earned the site LEED NC Silver Certification, demonstrating a strong commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainable practices.
