Finding sustainable, innovative solutions for today’s water challenges is no easy task but V3 Design Engineer Jamie Bradbury has bravely answered the call. Learn how she’s applying her lifelong passion for science and conservation to help protect our planet’s most precious resource.
Testing the waters
Jamie’s connection to water developed at a young age. Growing up near Lake Erie, her love for swimming and beach days grew into a desire to protect the environment, which she first explored through competing in regional and state science fairs. Her AP Biology teacher inspired her to pursue environmental sciences: a path she followed to Ohio State University.
While attending college, Jamie became involved with an undergraduate research lab that focused on the treatment of seawater salinity sewage with intermittent sand bioreactors. Through this, she realized the global impact that engineering could have and began to admire the field as a vessel for service. After graduation, Jamie searched for a company that shared her passion for conservation and humanities. She discovered V3 at a career fair, where a conversation about the firm’s social responsibility initiative sparked her interest.
“After learning about how V3 gives back to the community through activities like collecting old makeup brushes to help with environmental cleanup, I was intrigued. Here were people committed to doing good even outside of work; it felt like something I wanted to be part of.”
Making a splash
Having been with V3 for two years now, Jamie has settled in with her close-knit team of municipal engineers and specialists. As a Design Engineer, she splits her time between design work, client collaboration, and field visits, working on everything from water treatment projects to waste management solutions. No two days are the same: a challenge she truly enjoys. One day she’ll be at her desk designing sites; the next she’ll be in the middle of a creek collecting bugs for her natural resources teammates.
This can-do attitude has given Jamie the opportunity to grow as a leader. She’s joined a few of V3’s enrichment committees such as Revitalize and also runs some of her own meetings, collaborating with colleagues across offices.
“Our team is very dynamic—I love that. I’m always learning, always being pushed through our variety of projects. We’re all so connected and supportive of each other.”
One of her favorite projects has been the Racoon Valley Dam removal, which is reconstructing an existing dam with natural elements. These efforts are not only addressing stormwater management, but also making the river safer for recreation and community enjoyment.
“V3’s project approach is very comprehensive. We uncover the deep history of sites, sometimes looking at plans that are so old they are falling apart in our hands! But getting all the details helps us know our clients and sites inside out, filling in all the little pieces for the greatest result.”
Diving deep
Jamie is always up for an adventure. Outside of work, she enjoys exploring new places, from checking out quirky museums with friends to surrounding herself in the cultures of Barcelona and Egypt. She loves cooking, dancing, and concerts, and hopes to plan more trips soon.
But first, she’s setting her sights on earning her professional engineer’s license (PE): a demanding goal that requires intensive studying and four years of engineer shadowing. Luckily, she’s found the encouragement she needs to pass the test.
“Our company culture is so supportive. If we see a need, V3 will find a way to give us the resources. In only two years, I’ve been given many opportunities to grow, and I applaud our leadership for helping me amplify my position and discover what’s next.”
