Creating safe, efficient travel systems requires complex problem solving and a passion to improve communities. See how V3 Transportation Engineer Aimme Muro unlocks the puzzle of modern travel challenges by factoring in all the variables.
Finding the best route
Aimme’s engineering acumen emerged at a young age. She showed a real gift for math and solving complicated equations, prompting her teachers to challenge her with harder questions than her classmates. During her junior year of high school, Aimme’s counselor suggested she explore STEM degrees at UIC. She tested the waters with architecture, but the hands-on problem solving of engineering proved to be the better fit.
While at UIC, she landed a coveted internship with ComEd, where she learned about QA/QC processes for electrical substations. This opportunity led to meeting Transportation and Structural team members from V3, who encouraged her to spend her next internship with the firm.
“My internship with V3 really drew me into the transportation side of engineering. There are so many unique problems to solve! Sure, there are hiccups along the way, but there’s always an answer. I really enjoy finding those solutions.”
In the driver’s seat
Aimme was hired full time in 2020 and has been delivering results ever since. Since joining V3’s Transportation and Municipal Engineering team, Aimme has contributed to a wide range of projects, applying her love of math and untangling puzzles to everything she touches. She works on everything from cost estimates to traffic signal design, learning all the various standards across municipalities. While she doesn’t go into the field much, her careful eye and left-brain logic oversee details from afar, ensuring all the pieces fit together.
As Aimme expands her skillset through new challenges such as lighting plans and accessibility features, she shares her expertise with her team, especially the younger members. She’s passionate about supporting those around her and taking on more of a leadership role.
“Teaching younger engineers is important to me. I love answering questions, sharing tips, and passing on tools to support their growth. Especially when we have interns, I like sharing what I’m working on and helping them work through mistakes.”
Having such a varied workload keeps Aimme engaged. She appreciates working with different clients and communities, learning about their unique needs and finding innovative ways to push projects forward. She currently digging into a roundabout project in Chicago’s south suburbs: a multiyear endeavor that will expose her to even more transportation challenges.
“This is my first time working on a project like this and I’m excited to see how everything will be incorporated. The drainage, the grading, the layout, the landscape—it will be so fun seeing it all come together.”
It’s all about the journey
When she’s not bringing transportation systems to life, Aimme can often be found whipping up culinary masterpieces. She loves baking cakes, pies, and her latest achievement: macarons. She’s also an avid traveler and enjoys taking her huskie—Icy—for long walks.
The sky’s the limit when it comes to Aimme’s next steps. With so many new challenges ahead, she’s excited to see where her career takes her.
“I’m looking forward to getting exposure to more things and expanding my knowledge further. I’m driven to learn and develop as a leader.”
