Alan G. Wallace, RPP, MCIP, has joined the Planning & Government Relations Group of V3 Companies of Canada Ltd. as its Planning Lead-Saskatchewan. Al brings more than 30 years of planning and governmental experience to the firm, having most recently served the City of Saskatoon as its Director of Planning and Development.
He joins V3’s growing planning team as a senior manager, leading the firm’s expansion into Saskatchewan and providing a high level of expertise in regional and community planning and development, land use, municipal governance and financing, affordable housing and infill and brownfield development.
“We are thrilled to add Al as a team member,” said Nick Pryce, V3’s Director of Planning & Government Relations Group. “He brings an unmatched breadth of planning experience in Western Canada to our firm. Al will strengthen our existing service capabilities as well as expand our offerings to our clients based on his prior work.”
Some of that work includes Al’s leadership role in developing Saskatoon’s recently adopted “Growth Plan to Half a Million,” which charts a 30-year plan to help the city navigate its growth to half a million people. Some of his other recent efforts include leading the development of a comprehensive regional plan among five municipalities, a detailed analysis of growth initiative funding mechanisms, a town centre redevelopment plan, an active transportation plan, an award-winning affordable housing business plan, a parking system strategy, neighbourhood infill guidelines and numerous neighbourhood and property redevelopment projects.
“Al has an enviable range of expertise,” Nick said. “From planning studies to transportation analysis to regulatory updates, he’s seen it all. His resume and reputation speak volumes about the variety and complexity of project work that he’s not just encountered but solved as a planning leader.”
In addition to providing project management oversight and technical support to the Planning & Government Relations Group, Al will lead V3’s foray into Saskatchewan. “V3 has been looking for the right entrée into Saskatchewan,” said Ed Fitch, the firm’s Vice President. “Having a professional like Al to introduce V3 to the Saskatchewan municipal and development communities and represent the level of project quality and client service that defines us is the best possible scenario we could envision.”
A veteran of the Canadian Institute of Planners, Canadian Housing and Renewal Association and Saskatchewan Professional Planners Institute, Al has a long history of service to the planning profession. “His passion for planning is palpable,” said Nick. “We consider ourselves fortunate to have him help lead our efforts forward to address our clients’ planning needs.”
