Happy Women in Construction Week! This annual celebration recognizes the increasing presence of women in a traditionally male-dominated industry, raising awareness and opportunities for STEM-based roles for all. Learn more about the V3 women who work in construction!
What is Women in Construction Week?
Women in Construction Week (or WIC Week) was established by the National Association of Women in Construction (NAWIC) in 1998 as a way to elevate women’s vital contributions to the field. As of 2023, only 10.8% of construction workers were women, primarily in sales or office-based roles. With the construction industry continuing to grow, there is substantial opportunity to bring women into the field.
Historically, women have faced many barriers in construction, including harassment, sexism, and lack of role models. But more and more, talented women are paving the way for future generations to change the professional landscape. Today there are a variety of training and support systems to help women subvert stereotypes and succeed in STEM jobs. Employers are also putting in the work to improve diversity and harness skillsets that strengthen project value.
Women in Construction at V3
At V3, we are proud to have many women who work in construction, from project engineers and field technicians to project managers. We are committed to creating an equitable workforce where everyone can succeed and pursue their interests regardless of gender. Through yearly events, training opportunities, and our STEM scholarship program for those less frequently represented in the A/E/C industry, we are actively helping to build a more diverse, empowered workforce.
