Prince Pond Dredging & Park Improvements
Prince Pond had lost some of its stormwater storage capacity due to sediment accumulation. We self-performed the dredging of the pond, and during construction it was discovered that the pond’s bottom was soft peat material instead of the expected hard clay. This caused a change in the approach for removing the sediment. The excavation was completed by working off of wood mats placed in the bottom so the equipment was supported and didn’t sink into the soft peat material. In addition, we assisted with other park improvements, such as a new ADA-compliant sidewalk ramp with hand railing and resetting a section of flagstone path for better park access and guest experiences.

Project Highlight:
- The Park District worked in partnership with the Village to fund the dredging cost of the pond so that it would regain its full capacity. The park is also a recreational amenity for the neighborhood.
- We dewatered the pond and mechanically dredged 3,000 cubic yards of sediment which was hauled to an approved landfill.
- 263 liner feet of shoreline restoration was accomplished by resetting existing boulders to better support the flagstone path along the top of the bank.
