West Side Neighborhood Storage Contract #2

The west side of Wilmette was prone to frequent flooding, causing transportation delays and property damage. The Village hired our team to install 10 acre feet of underground detention using a StormTrap Doubletrap system totaling 520 pre-cast pieces. This project was constructed throughout neighborhood streets while maintaining all local traffic. Specific attention was paid to completing a limited number of local roads prior to impacting additional residents. Approximately 4,100 linear feet of storm sewer was installed ranging from 12 to 60 inches in diameter which included 56 manholes and 3,000 linear feet of underdrain. Restoration included native seed and plugs, a rain garden for additional bioretention, and native shrubs. These efforts have helped Wilmette’s west side to be better equipped against stormwater.

Project Highlights:

More than 1,000 linear feet of watermain and 1,350 linear feet of sanitary sewer was installed throughout the neighborhood, including reconnection all water and sanitary services to the residences.
A 30-foot-deep lift station was installed for pumping stormwater out of the detention system at a controlled rate.
Our team excavated 37,000 cubic yards of earth to allow for the new detention system.
Due the project’s proximity to Skokie Valley Road, a soil nail retention system was used to maintain existing sidewalk and parkway trees.
Roadway reconstruction included grading, stone, concrete curb, and asphalt paving.
Amended topsoil was used to reconstruct 1.5 acres of baseball and soccer fields over the top of the StormTrap system.
